Milestone 2 of 7 Start selling online legally

Set up your website and checkout

Show the required information, the full price and a clear order button before the customer pays.

Before a customer is bound, you must give them the information listed in Schedule 2 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, including who you are, your geographic address, the main characteristics of the goods, the total price and delivery charges. Directly before they place the order, show the main characteristics, the total price and any delivery charges again, clearly and prominently.

The button that places the order must make clear that ordering means paying. If it does not, the customer is not bound by the contract.

The price you advertise must include every fee, tax or charge the customer cannot avoid. Since 6 April 2025 the Competition and Markets Authority can decide for itself that a business has broken consumer law and fine it up to 10% of its global turnover.
