Journey Step 6 of 6
6. Act within the time limit
Before any Employment Tribunal claim, the parent must notify Acas under Early Conciliation; that step pauses the clock but does not restart it. If a rate or threshold needs checking before you reply — for ShPP, SAP, or an unlawful-deductions calculation — pull the current figures rather than relying on last year's payroll memory.

Read the guide →Employment Tribunal claims for refused SPL, detriment, or §99 automatic unfair dismissal must be presented within three months less one day of the act complained of (or the effective date of termination). Acas Early Conciliation pauses but does not extend that limit. HMRC statutory-payment disputes have their own decision-and-appeal timetable — do not assume the three-month rule applies there.
