A returns policy and staff who know the statutory rights: write the policy so it adds to those rights, including the consumer's 30-day short-term right to reject faulty goods. A selling price for every product you offer to consumers, and a unit price such as per kilogram or litre where the Price Marking Order requires one: mark them on the goods, shelf edge or website. If you sell alcohol or other age-restricted products: a written age-check policy, staff trained to ask for evidence of age, and records of training and refusals. They help show you took all reasonable steps to check a buyer's age. The data protection fee paid to the Information Commission (formerly the ICO) within the first 21 days of each charge period, unless all your processing is exempt. A fire risk assessment for the shop: carry it out yourself or with a competent person, and review it regularly and after any change to the premises. If your shop has a relevant floor area over 280 square metres: Sunday opening of no more than six continuous hours, starting no earlier than 10am and ending no later than 6pm. If you sell, cook, store or handle food: registration with the council, made at least 28 days before you started. If you sell online, by phone or by mail order: a 14-day cancellation right for buyers, running from the day the goods reach them, set out in your terms. If you keep petrol for sale: a valid storage certificate for the premises from the petroleum enforcement authority. If you deal in firearms: registration as a firearms dealer with the chief officer of police for each area where you have a place of business.
