The General Product Safety Regulations 2005 apply in Great Britain. They require every consumer product to be safe in its normal or reasonably foreseeable use, and they put duties on producers and on distributors, including retailers.
UKCA and CE marking
Some products, such as toys, electrical equipment and machinery, must carry a conformity marking before you can sell them. Not every product needs one: only the product's own regulations can require it.
If you import a product into the UK, you must put your name, trade name or trademark and postal address on it, and check that the manufacturer has carried out the right conformity process and marked the product correctly. If you only sell products made or imported by others, check that the manufacturer and importer are identified on the product and that it carries the right marking.
