General duty to protect employees and the public affected by the business — close-contact personal services, hot equipment, chemicals and sharps all carry health-and-safety risk.
Employers' Liability Insurance

Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969
Required for any business employing at least one person. Many in this industry also carry treatment/public-liability cover, though that is commercial rather than statutory.

Personal services hold client contact details and frequently health/special-category data (skin conditions, allergies, treatment consent). ICO registration unless specifically exempt.

No discrimination, harassment or victimisation in services to the public or in employment. Service providers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled customers.

Scottish equivalent of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the duty holder for any commercial premises must carry out and maintain a fire risk assessment under Part 3 of the 2005 Act, enforced by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
