What Scottish Social Services Council does
Regulates the social service workforce in Scotland: maintains the register of social workers and other social service workers, sets registration rules, publishes the codes of practice for workers and employers, and approves education and training courses under the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001.
Added 2026-09-02 per MA batch-11 adjudication (ISS-651). Workforce regulator, distinct from the Care Inspectorate (care services; statutory consultee on SSSC codes under s.53). Prosecution of registration/protected-title offences remains for COPFS and the courts.
