Step 3 of 4

If your team does not currently have the Welsh language skills needed, there are several options:

  • Work Welsh programme: Free and subsidised Welsh language courses for employees, delivered by the National Centre for Learning Welsh. Courses range from awareness tasters to intensive programmes
  • Translation services: Use professional translators for documents, websites, and correspondence. Typical rates are 10p to 15p per word
  • Helo Blod: The Welsh Government's free translation checking service for businesses — useful for checking signage and short texts
  • Recruitment: Consider recruiting Welsh-speaking staff. In some areas of Wales, a significant proportion of the workforce speaks Welsh
  • Sub-contracting: Partner with Welsh-speaking sub-contractors for specific elements of the contract

Build the cost of Welsh language provision into your tender price. Public bodies expect realistic costing for language requirements and will view this as a sign of understanding the contract.
