Step 3 of 5

Apply for your premises licence through your local Licensing Board. Scotland has 32 Licensing Boards — one for each council area.

Your application must include:

  • Completed application form with an operating plan
  • Layout plan of the premises
  • Name of your premises manager (who holds a Scottish personal licence)
  • Application fee (set locally — varies between Boards)

The Licensing Board will assess your application against the five licensing objectives and their local licensing policy statement.

Overprovision areas

If the Licensing Board has identified overprovision of licensed premises in your area, your application may face a presumption of refusal. Check the Board's policy statement before applying.
