UKCA Product Marking

Guide summary

Check if your product needs UKCA or CE marking. For most products sold in Great Britain, you can use either UKCA or CE marking. Some products, like medical devices and construction products, have different rules. You must keep a UK Declaration of Conformity for 10 years.

Choose UKCA or CE marking for most products sold in GB
Use CE marking for products placed in Northern Ireland
Use UKCA marking for products with separate rules (e.g. medical devices)
Place UKCA mark on product – minimum 5mm height
Draw up a UK Declaration of Conformity before selling
Keep the Declaration of Conformity for 10 years
Show the Declaration to OPSS if they ask
Use a UK Approved Body for higher risk products
Self-declare conformity for lower risk products if allowed
Until 31 Dec 2027, you can put UKCA on a label or document

The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking shows products meet UK safety requirements for placing on the Great Britain market. It replaced CE marking for the GB market, though CE marking remains accepted indefinitely.

Product categories that need UKCA marking for GB market

Electrical equipment: Low voltage (50-1000V AC, 75-1500V DC)
Machinery: As defined in Supply of Machinery Regulations
Toys: Products designed for children under 14
Personal protective equipment: PPE for workplace and consumer use
Radio equipment: Radio transmitters and receivers
Pressure equipment: Pressure vessels, piping, safety accessories
Medical devices: Separate UKCA medical device marking
Construction products: UK mark for construction products
