Maintain your business premises
Essential maintenance requirements including fire safety, gas and electrical safety, and legionella risk management.
You must keep your business premises safe by doing regular checks. These include fire risk assessments, gas and electrical safety checks, and managing legionella risk in water systems. Some checks must be done yearly or more often.
- Do a fire risk assessment for all non-domestic premises
- Review fire risk assessment when changes occur
- Check communal fire doors every 3 months (residential over 11m)
- Get gas appliances checked every 12 months by Gas Safe engineer
- Keep gas safety records for 2 years
- Test fixed electrical systems every 3-5 years
- Assess legionella risk in water systems every 2 years
- Keep hot water at 60°C or higher to stop bacteria
- Test fire alarms weekly and emergency lights monthly
- Record all checks and inspections
